Playa Hermosa Fish & Oyster Company

Sunday Funday

One of my favorite ways to spend a Sunday is a beach bike ride filled with food and Bloody Mary’s with my Dad. Yesterday was probably our best one yet!

We started our journey at our favorite Bloody Mary spot FishBar in Manhattan Beach. It never disappoints when you need a good Bloody Mary. They make it filled with Bacon, Shrimp, & Pickled Asparagus. It’s always a good way to start the day off right!

Then we biked down to the Redondo Pier and back and ended up in Hermosa hungry for a snack or five. We came across Playa Hermosa Fish & Oyster Co. and that pretty much sold it right there. The award hanging up saying “Best Bloody Mary in Los Angeles 2017” didn’t add a bad touch either. My dad and both love fresh seafood, particularly shellfish.

This place did not disappoint. The Bloody Mary was great, a little too chunky for my taste but was still a pretty good start! We let our waiter help pick what to go with on the menu because quite a few items were unfamiliar. We are down to try anything so it was great to have some help!! We started with Peruvian Scallops. Raw Scallops with a Ponzu Blood Orange sauce and topped with minced Fuji Apple. We had never eaten raw scallops before but I guarantee if they all taste like this, we will again!

Next up was Clams Casino. A familiar item to my Dad yet I have never had them! I love clams and always have them in some type of broth but I’ve never had them with Garlic, Bacon, and covered in Bread Crumbs! Anything with Bacon and I’m usually going to want to try it. The clams were a little chewy but the flavor was incredible.

Fried Oyster Po Boys and Green Curry Mussels were our next venture and WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW.

It took me a second to have the fried oyster due to a case of food poisoning from a fried oyster taco in Baton Rouge a few years ago. But this was no Baton Rouge. AMAZING. Tender and juicy with a green goddess dressing. The perfect little bite.

And now…the star of the day…GREEN CURRY MUSSELS. Curry has always been very scary to me. Sounds spicy and like you’re stomach is going to hate you for days. This has completely changed the game for me. Thai Basil and Jalapeños and served with Bread to mop up that deliciousness that was in that bowl. My Dad and I both would order this again and again.

If you are ever on the Hermosa Pier head on over to the fabulous Playa Hermosa Fish & Oyster Co. and let the waiters guide you to a meal filled with simple dishes packed with flavor and culture!
